Faisalabad city (Pakistan):
Faisalabad, the old name Layalpur, is a city in Punjab province, Pakistan. It is now the third-largest
city in Pakistan and the second-largest city in Punjab, with a population of
more than 3 million people.
Faisalabad
is one of the earliest planned cities in British India. Now it has developed
into the textile industry center of Pakistan. In addition, because of its
location in the geographic center of Punjab, it is also a railway and highway
hub, known as Pakistan Manchester.
The
planning of the city started during British rule. The clock tower was
the convergent point of the city, where eight roads met and looked like a
British flag from the air.
The industry is dominated by textiles and food processing. There are many
large-scale textile factories in the city, as well as small and medium-sized
textile factories and workshops, as well as factories for fertilizers and
canned food. The suburbs are the main production areas for cotton and wheat. As
of 2013, Faisalabad’s GDP is estimated at US$43 billion, and is
expected to reach US$87 billion by 2025.
Traffic:
Faisalabad
has very convenient rail, road and air transportation. Faisalabad International airport is about 15 kilometers (9.3 miles)
from the city center.
Climate:
Faisalabad has a subtropical continental semi-arid climate, with hot summers and cool winters. The average temperature in the summer season is almost 40 degrees Celsius. The average annual rainfall is about 615 mm. The rainfall is concentrated from July to September, sometimes with catastrophic heavy rain.
